Being Intentional: Living with Intention

“Are you being intentional"? This question hit me like a ton of bricks while on a long run a couple of weeks ago. It stopped me in my tracks. It challenged me. It made me think. It made me question my actions. It finally got me to slow down long enough to think about my actions rather than just going through the motions.

So what do I mean “intentional”? I mean…

  • Are you living your life with purpose?

  • Are you being intentional with everything you do?

  • Are you going through your daily activities with a goal?

Some of you are probably sitting there saying, “WHAT does she even mean?” So here it is…

“Are you actively aware of the purpose of you action while you’re doing it?

Read that out loud again…

Now stop and think about what that means. Here are some things it made me question.

  1. Are you dating with intention?

  2. Are you eating with intention?

  3. Are you working with intention?

  4. Are you working out with intention?

  5. Are you doing bible study with intention?

  6. Are you helping others with intention?

Your intention or question can be whatever it needs to be for your specific life. Here are some examples for my personal life.

  1. Do I want to date with the intention of marriage?

    • If the answer is yes, then, does this mean he checks off all the “must have” boxes for you to continue to date him?

    • If the answer is no, then i’m not intertionally dating.

  2. Do I want to be successful?

    • If the answer is yes, then, am I waking up everyday with the drive and ambition and grit, giving it my all to be successful?

    • If the answer is no, then I’m not being intentional with my work.

  3. Do I want to be in the best shape I can be?

    • If the answer is yes, then, am I doing the workouts consistently that I know will help me achieve my goals?

    • If the answer is no, then i’m not being intentional with my workouts.

  4. Do I want to know more about my father, Jesus, and the Bible?

    • If the answer is yes, then, am I praying, going to church, and actively reading my bible.

    • If the answer is no, then i’m not being intentional with my quiet time.

  5. Do I want to feel good about what I put in my body?

    • If the answer is yes, then, Am I overeating? Am I eating for pure enjoyment and not fuel? Am I eating foods that are bad for me instead of feeding my muscles?

    • If the answer is no, then I’m not eating with intention.

Everything in moderation is obviously key. I’m not saying to not give yourself GRACE, we all deserve that, but, living with intention is so important to help us live our fullest lives. Here is a template I made that has personally really helped me. You can print out the template and keep it by your bed, or take it on your mirror, or your fridge. OR you can save it to your phone and fill it out using the font on your Instagram stories, then save it to your phone every week ( you don’t even have to post it to do so).

These are all things that relate to my life personally. Your intentions and questions to yourself will be specific to your life and your goals. All that I hope you take away from this is the reminder to ask yourself…

“Am I living with intention?”

If the answer is no, hopefully now you’re inspired to make a change! Love you all, thank you very much for reading! xoxo
