Puppy Love

Meet Bella

my new princess puppy!

I wanted to add this blog post to my website for anyone interested in getting a puppy/ currently in the puppy phase! Below you will find all the MUST HAVE items, home items, puppy food/treats, crate, toys, youtube videos helpful for training, potty pads, sleep time tips, and so much more!

I am NO puppy expert but I’m learning as I go and will continue to update this blog post!

I have always known I wanted a dog, but assumed I “needed” or “should” wait until I’m married, which I raise now is silly. To be completely transparent, I got to the point where I no longer wanted to put things on hold in my life until the “perfect” timing! looking back, i’n so HAPPY I got the puppy chewing and peeing everywhere phase over with in a townhome, rather than my forever home with new EVERYTHING! On Thursday evening December 9th, 2021 I was texting my parents complaining about my sleep anxiety, anxiousness of being home alone, and just bored with working from home alone everyday talking to a phone. My parents suggested just pulling the trigger and getting a puppy, I think they were kidding haha, but I no joke stayed up until 4am researching doodle breeders in Dallas. A friend messages me suggesting I look into Safari Doodles. She had gotten a doodle from Safari Doodles about 7 months earlier and had the best experience.

I found out they had one Bordoodle left, that was currently 10 months old and looking for a home. They sent me these photos of her (below) and I JUST HAD to meet her.

Bella is an F1 Mini Bordoodle, she is 17% border collie, and mostly poodle, she was only 5lbs when I got her, but will be about 25lbs full grown. Bella was born on October 1st, 2021, I first met her on Saturday, December 11th, 2021, and picked her up to take her home on Wednesday, December 15th.

I have had 3 family dogs in my life, before Bella. I have the worst memory and do NOT remember the puppy stage for the life of me, I guess my parents did most of the work! With that being said, I had no idea how much work puppies are! I highly suggest snagging all these toys and items ASAP before you get a puppy to ensure there are always toys on hand to keep your puppy occupied and busy! You can always return an item if it dopant work for your puppy, we did that with numerous items for Bella.

The Only Between Bath Spray: This stuff is a game change for your little girl! it smells like roses and helps you get between washes to keep your baby girl smelling amazing when she meets all your family and friends. You just cover her eyes and spray it on her back and then pet her so it soaks in!

Advanced Oral Care: If no-one has told you yet, puppies eat their own poop if you’re not keeping an eye on them 24/7. It happens WAY more often than you want to admit, even if you walk away for a second! I purchased this puppy cleaning kit and its so easy to use, definitely comes in handy!

A PUPPY IS SO MUCH WORK, no wonder God makes them so darn cute! I legit had no idea it was going to be like having a baby for the entire first year! They bark, they cry, they poo & pee every 10 minutes, they scratch at you and eat everything in sight, and they don’t sleep through the night without regularly taking them potty… BUT it’s also the most rewarding thing ever. Below I wanted to share some information that has helped me!

SLEEP TIPS:

  • Get a small crate that your puppy can’t move around too much in so that they don’t go to the bathroom where they sleep.

  • Have the puppy sleep in a room fairly far away from where you sleep so that you don’t hear it crying the first 20-30 minutes after you leave.

  • Get a camera you can place right in front of the puppy crate so you can have peace of mind and are able to hear and see puppy whenever you want. This is the one I have and love here, it connects with my NEST app on my phone.

  • Place an old t-shirt that smells like you inside the crate that the puppy can snuggle up to, it will help their separation anxiety.

  • Play soothing puppy music on Spotify all night to calm the puppy, I use this playlist here!

  • Cover 3 of the 4 sides of the crate when the puppy sleeps, so he/she feels closed it and safe and can’t see a TON of the room.

  • LAST, but MOST IMPORTANT, a puppy can only go a couple hours before they need to go potty. The rule the vet taught me, is the puppy can go as many hours are they are months old. If your puppy is 3 months old, it can hold it’s potty for 3 hours. If a puppy is 4 months old, it can hold it’s potty for 4 hours, and so on. It takes only five minutes to wake up to your alarm, take the puppy potty, and place it back in its crate to go to sleep!
