Lash Extensions: Everything You Need To Know

My Lash Extensions Experience!

Read below..

Heyyyyy my loves! Here is my lash extensions blog post you guys have been asking for. I’ve had lash extensions for about the last 5 months and love them so much. Below I’ve answered all the questions I feel you need to know before you get lashes. If you have any more questions just message me on Instagram (@janellepaigebrandom)

What has your lash extensions experience been like?

  • I LOVE my lash extensions! They have cut my get ready time in half, honestly. During the day, I no longer wear mascara on the top, eyeshadow, or liner. I just throw on my face makeup and go. I wake up “already” feeling pretty without any extra makeup because my lashes are done, and it’s made my life easier!

What is the initial process like when you first get lashes?

  • When you first get lashes the process takes about 2 hours, but after that you’ll only need a 30 min or hour long appointment depending on your personal lashes and how many have fallen out ( or how long you’ve gone between fills). You simply lay down on a table or chair, head propped up with a pillow, some places give you a cozy blanket, they place the eye patches under your eyes, and they get working. They attach each lash with glue one by one. You don’t smell the glue or even feel it if your lash technician is gentle and takes their time. It’s always been a really enjoyable experience for me because my lash gal and I have become friends so we just chat away!

Are their different types of lash extensions?

  • Yes, each salon is different, but usually it’s Classic, Volume, Mega Volume.

How much does it cost?

  • The pricing is different based on the salon you choose. Usually the initial; $150-$275 depending on which style your’e getting. The fills can range from $30- $120. Some salons charge by the style and length of time. 30-90 minute fills.

What lash extensions do you have? Where do you go?

  • I have a hybrid of classic and volume. So I get a fill every 2 week. I do a 30 minute to an hour defending on what my technician recommends. I go to @truejstudio for my lash extensions. If you’re in Dallas/Plano/DFW I highly recommend her. She is kind and sweet, but also very careful, gentle, has a really clean studio, and is very educational about explaining the process. I’ve had them for about 5 months now, and I never want to take them off! My gal also offers hair extensions, lash lift or tint, brows, waxing, etc.

How long do they last?

  • On average about 2-4 weeks! Everyone is different based on how well you take care of them, and how much activity you’re doing. For example, in the summer at the lake mine don’t last as long because i’m constantly jumping in and out of the water, but during the winter than can last a lot longer. It also defends on your preference, if you don’t mind them getting sparse throughout the weeks, then you can go every 4 weeks. I personally like to do mine every 2 weeks to keep them on point and full!

Do they make your real lashes fall out?

  • YES and NO… of course some of your natural lashes are going to fall out here and there, and/or become a bit more sparse after you remove all the extensions, but they can grow back quickly with the right serums (posted below). If you find a lash technician that is very careful and cares about keeping the integrity of your natural lashes then you’ll be totally fine. My lash gal (@truejstudio) is a perfectionist (in the best way possible) she is very very careful about keeping my natural lashes safe and long. The way she explained it to me is… if all your natural lashes fall out then we won’t have any way to attach the lash extensions. The lash extensions attach to your natural lashes so without any natural lashes, you can no longer have extensions. You can help keep the integrity of your natural lashes by not going to heavy or too glam with you extensions. I keep mine to classic and volume (instead of mega volume) because the less heavy the lash extensions are on your natural lashes, the higher chance you have of your natural lashes staying in tact.

Can you wear eye makeup; mascara, eye shadow, eye liner?

  • YASSSS!!! I wear eye shadow and eye liner when I go out at night or have an event or photoshoot, and it will not harm your lashes (as long as your kind to them). I do throw on a bit of mascara near the end of my 2 weeks if my lashes are looking a little sparse, but the more you do this the more your harming your lashes. I do NOT wash it off every single time though, I only add a little and clean it off every couple of days (with the proper wash). I always wear mascara on my bottom lashes, and it does not affect my lash extensions. My eye makeup products can be found below!

Can you go in the lake, ocean, shower, etc?

  • Yes you can most definitely still live your life as usual. I’ve gone in the lake on multiple occasions; wakeboarded, jumped off a very high dock, swam in the water, been in the swimming pool, jet skis, etc. I do make sure NOT to rub my eyes after I get out, I carefully dab my lashes with a towel and you’ll be just fine.

Can you feel them? Does it affect how you sleep?

  • I felt the lashes, meaning a little bit of heaviness the first couple of days, but once I got used it them I’ve never felt heaviness again! They feel like part of me now and I don’t even notice them at all. As far as sleeping goes, I was so afraid of messing them up the first couple months I would only sleep on my back (and I’'m a side sleeper) but now I sleep on my side, back, even front with my head tilted and nothing has ever happened.

What can you use to clean/ wash them?

  • My lash gal (@truejstudio) actually sells her own. Hers currently is just for her own clients. I use it once a week to clean mine. I place the foam on my fingers and gently rub it along my lashes very gently. But i’ve also had friends use this one, HIGU and this one LashFresh

Do you have any alternatives to lash extensions you’ve tried?

  • Lash Serum I’ve tried- GrandeLash & Rodan&Field Serum

    • Both have worked for me for years before lash extensions and I loved them. They tend to stop working after a few years, so I used to switch back and forth every 6 months or so!

  • False Glue on lashes- Ardell lashes are the best in my opinion, but make sure you cut them to the length of your lashes so they look natural.
